How the Poker Equity Calculator Works
Equity is your share of the pot right now: the percentage of the time your hand wins (plus your split of the ties) if every remaining card were dealt out and the hand went to showdown. This calculator computes equity for up to nine players at once. Give each player exact cards, a range of hands, or a random "any two", set any flop, turn, or river, and you get win %, tie %, and overall equity for everyone in the pot.
When every player has specific cards, the calculator runs exact enumeration: it deals every possible remaining board and counts the results, so the answer is mathematically precise. As soon as any player is on a range or random hand, the combinations explode, so it switches to a fast Monte Carlo simulation that samples tens of thousands of runouts. The math runs entirely in your browser on a background thread, so nothing is uploaded and the page never freezes.
Hand vs Hand, Hand vs Range, and Range vs Range
The classic use is a cooler check: how far ahead is pocket aces against pocket kings? But equity only becomes useful when you stop thinking about single hands. Put a hero hand against a realistic opponent range and the number tells you whether a call is profitable given the pot odds. The 13×13 grid, the Top % slider, and the position templates make it quick to build a believable range instead of guessing. For a deeper look at how two ranges collide on a specific texture, use the Range vs Board analyzer, which breaks down made hands and draws combo by combo.
Turning Equity Into a Decision
Equity on its own does not tell you to call or fold. Pair it with the price you are being laid. If you have 40% equity and the pot odds only require 33%, calling is profitable in a chip-EV sense. Out of position you will not realize all of your raw equity, which is why understanding pot odds and equity together matters more than either number alone. Tournament spots add ICM on top, where survival can make a mathematically "correct" call wrong.
From Calculator to Table
A calculator builds the intuition; reps make it automatic. Practicing real decisions against solved spots in Postflop+ trains you to estimate equity and act on it at table speed, and Solver+ lets you check how the equilibrium strategy treats the exact spot you just analyzed. Use the calculator to settle the "what was my equity there?" questions after a session, then drill the patterns until you no longer need it.
