GTO Preflop Charts: MTT and Live Opening Ranges

Free GTO preflop charts for the two formats where the standard 100bb chart is wrong: tournaments above 20 big blinds and live or deep-stack cash at 200bb. Each chart below folds every position into one 13×13 grid, coloured by the earliest seat that opens the hand. All ranges come from GTO Ranges+ and are the same solves behind the MTT and live cash libraries.

How to read these charts

  • One chart per format. Each 13×13 grid covers every position at that stack depth. Suited hands are above the diagonal, pairs on it, offsuit below.
  • Colour = the earliest position that opens the hand at least half the time. Later seats open everything an earlier seat does, so from the cutoff you open every cell coloured cutoff or earlier.
  • Striped cells are mixed opens the solver raises under 50% of the time from that seat. The per-position pages (click any legend pill) show the exact frequency for every hand.
  • Raise-first-in only. These are opening ranges when everyone before you has folded. Facing a raise, 3-bet and call ranges are a different chart; GTO Ranges+ carries those for every spot.

Why tournament and live ranges are not the 100bb chart

Put the charts side by side and the shape of the difference is obvious. From under the gun, the 40bb tournament range opens 17.3% of hands, while the 200bb full-ring live range opens 11.3%. On the button the gap narrows: 52% at 40bb in the tournament against 46.7% at 200bb 6-max.

Two forces drive that. In a tournament, antes add dead money to every pot and shallower stacks cap how much you can lose after the flop, so more hands are profitable opens from every seat and the raise itself is smaller. At 200 big blinds the opposite applies: a marginal early-position open can face a 3-bet with a huge stack still behind, so the solver tightens up front and shifts weight toward hands that play well deep, suited and connected, in the seats closest to the button.

The practical takeaway is that "the" preflop chart does not exist. Memorise the format you actually play, and use the range-memorisation method to learn the borders rather than the whole grid.

Shorter stacks and ICM

Below 20 big blinds the open-raise chart gives way to shove-or-fold and ICM pressure. Those charts live in the MTT library:

Preflop chart FAQ

What is a GTO preflop chart?

A GTO preflop chart is a 13 by 13 grid of the 169 starting hands showing which ones a solver raises first-in from a given position, stack depth and format. The charts on this page are position-coded: each hand takes the colour of the earliest seat that opens it, so one chart covers every position at that depth. Click any position to see its own 169-hand chart with exact frequencies.

Why do these charts differ from the 100bb cash charts everywhere else?

Stack depth and format change the correct opening range. Tournaments have antes and shallower stacks, which rewards opening more hands for a smaller raise; live and deep-stack cash at 200bb punishes marginal early-position opens and rewards playable suited hands in late position. ThinkGTO publishes the tournament and live and deep-stack charts; it does not publish 100bb online cash charts.

How do I read a position-coded poker range chart?

Suited hands sit above the diagonal, pairs on it and offsuit hands below. Find your position in the legend, then every cell in that colour or any earlier (warmer) colour is an open from your seat. Striped cells are mixed-frequency opens the solver raises less than half the time; use the per-position chart for the exact number.

Where are the push/fold charts for short stacks?

This hub covers raise-first-in opening ranges above 20 big blinds. For the 20bb open-raise and final-table ICM charts, see the MTT library links on this page, and for shove-or-fold decisions read the final-table push/fold article linked below.

Where do these preflop ranges come from?

Every chart is generated from the solved ranges in GTO Ranges+, the ThinkGTO app for preflop ranges across cash, MTT, ICM, PKO and Spins. The site shows a baked snapshot; the app carries the full trees, including 3-bet and ICM ranges, and a trainer with streaks and mistake-breakdown reports.

Can I print these poker preflop charts?

Yes. Use the Print / save as PDF button. The print layout drops the navigation and buttons, keeps the chart colours, and fits each chart on its own page.
