When the Flop Checks Through, Attack the Turn
A flop that checks through caps the preflop raiser. Solver+ shows the out-of-position player should seize the turn, and the turn card decides how hard to press.
A flop that checks through feels like a truce. It is not. When the preflop raiser declines to continuation bet and taps the table behind you, they have just handed you a piece of information worth real money: their hand is almost certainly not strong. Their sets, their two pairs, their good top pairs, those hands bet the flop for value and protection. A check-back caps the range at medium strength and below. And the moment a range is capped, the turn stops being neutral. It belongs to whoever the next card favors, and after a check-back, that is usually you.
Most players do the opposite of what they should here. They check to the raiser again out of habit, as if the flop check-back were a sign of strength to respect rather than weakness to attack. Why a check-back hands you the turn
Think about what is left in the button's range after it checks a flop back. The nutted hands are gone, because they bet. What remains is a merged, mostly capped collection of middling pairs, weak draws, and give-up air. Your range advantage on the turn is not about having more strong hands in the abstract. It is about the fact that you can still credibly hold the top of the range and your opponent cannot. That is the same engine behind attacking capped ranges on the river, moved one street earlier.
The turn card decides how hard you press
Here is a fully solved example from Solver+: 100bb single-raised pot, button opens, big blind calls. The flop comes 9♠ 7♦ 4♣ and checks through, so the button caps itself. Now watch how the big blind's leading frequency swings with the turn card. Every number below is real solver output.

The pattern is clean once you see it. You attack hardest on the cards that connect with your wide calling range and miss the button's capped one: middle cards like the ten and the eight, where you fire around 56 to 60% of the time. Bricks barely dent your edge, so you keep stabbing near half the time. The one card you respect is the ace. It smashes exactly the part of the button's range that checked the flop back, the suited and offsuit aces that gave up, so your leading frequency collapses to 16%. Same capped opponent, wildly different turn depending on whether the card helped them or you.

Put a hand in that spot. You hold J♥ T♠ on the T♣ turn: you just made a pair of tens and picked up a straight draw on a card that does nothing for the button's give-up range. This is a textbook member of the leading range. You are not hoping to get to showdown cheaply, you are taxing a range that has already told you it is weak, and you have equity to fall back on when called. The habit to break
The leak is not a single misplay, it is a reflex: checking to the preflop raiser after they check back, every time, on autopilot. That reflex quietly donates the turn. The fix is a question you ask the moment a flop checks through. Does this turn card help the range that just gave up, or mine? If it is a blank or a card in my calling range, I lead.
