Chapter 03

GTO Training

The core of Postflop+. Practice making optimal poker decisions in realistic scenarios and get instant feedback comparing your choice with GTO.

How a Training Session Works

  1. 1
    Select a Spot

Choose how you want to train: Quickstart Challenge to jump straight into a spot, Targeted Training to filter and practise across multiple spots matching your criteria, or browse All Spots to select a specific scenario.

  2. 2
    Review the Scenario

You'll see the poker table with your hole cards, community cards, pot size, stack sizes, and player positions laid out visually.

  3. 3
    Make Your Decision

Choose your action: Fold, Check, Call, Raise, or Bet. The available options depend on the situation.

  4. 4
    Multi-Street Play

Depending on the spot, you may be asked to make decisions on the Flop, Turn, and River — playing through the full hand.

  5. 5
    Get Feedback

After your decision, the app shows the GTO-optimal strategy: what percentage of the time you should take each action, and how your choice compares.

Training Controls

Instant Feedback Toggle

Turn instant feedback on or off from the top of the screen. When off, you'll play through the full hand before seeing results.

Bet Size as Pot %

Toggle to display bet sizes as a percentage of the pot — helpful for developing bet-sizing intuition.

Hand Info

Tap the i button in the top-right toolbar to see preflop details — the preflop actions, bet sizings, and opening ranges for the spot.

Reading the Feedback Screen

  1. 1
    Your Action

See what you chose and how it compares to the GTO-recommended play.

  2. 2
    Optimal Strategy

The GTO-recommended action(s) with frequencies — showing exactly how often each action should be taken.

  3. 3
    Action History

A timeline of all player actions leading to this point. Tap any action node to open the Range Splits screen for detailed analysis at that decision point.

Start with the Quick Start spot if you're new. Use random spots to keep your practice varied, and review the feedback carefully — understanding why an action is optimal is more valuable than just knowing the answer.
Chapter 04

Range Splits

The full strategy view for an entire range at any node — see how every hand plays from both OOP and IP perspectives.

Getting Here

  1. 1
    Tap an Action Node

From the feedback screen in any training hand, tap any action node in the action history to open Range Splits for that specific decision point.

Exploring the Strategy

  1. 1
    View the Full Range Strategy

The Range Splits screen shows the complete GTO strategy for the entire range at the selected node — every hand, every action, with frequencies.

  2. 2
    Tap a Hand Combo

Tap any individual hand in the range grid to see its specific combo splits — exactly how that hand is divided across each action.

  3. 3
    Highlight by Action

Tap a bet sizing option to highlight only the hands that take that action. Instantly see which part of the range goes into each betting line.

  4. 4
    Check Combinatorics

View exact combo counts for each hand type at this node. Tap any combo count to filter the range grid and isolate that subset of hands.

  5. 5
    Weighted Height & Weighted Width

Toggle Weighted Height to scale each combo's height by the frequency with which it arrives at this node — taller means it reaches this spot more often. Toggle Weighted Width to include or exclude combos from each range cell based on whether they're still in the range at this point.

  6. 6
    Switch Perspectives

View the strategy from either the OOP or IP player's perspective to understand both sides of the spot.

To get familiar with the weighted toggles, try picking a single combo like AA and walking through different postflop lines — watch how its height and presence in the grid changes as the range narrows through the runout.
Want to go even deeper? From the Range Splits screen, you can open the EQ/EV Explorer for detailed equity and expected value analysis — covered in the next chapter.
Chapter 05

Equity & EV Analysis

Dive deeper into the math behind each decision. Accessible from the Range Splits screen after any training hand.

What You Can View

Equity Charts

Line and pie charts showing your hand's equity against opponent ranges.

EV Calculations

Expected value breakdowns for each action — see exactly how much EV each decision is worth.

Combo Listings

Detailed hand combination counts and frequencies for every action.

Range Visualization

See the full 13x13 range grid with color-coded actions.

Using the Analysis Tool

  1. 1
    Access from Range Splits

After completing a training spot, tap any action node in the feedback screen to open Range Splits. From there, look for the EV/Equity Explorer option.

  2. 2
    Toggle Between Chart Types

Switch between line, pie, and range grid views to study the data from different angles.

  3. 3
    Action-Based Filtering

Filter by specific actions to see how equity changes when opponents take different lines.

  4. 4
    Multi-Street Analysis

Analyze across multiple streets to see how equity evolves from Flop to River.

EV distribution across the range

Pie Chart

Action frequency proportions

Chapter 06

Searching & Filtering Spots

Not all spots are equal. Use the search and filter tools to focus on the scenarios you want to practice.

Postflop+ gives you three distinct ways to find and start training spots, each designed for a different study goal.

1. Quickstart Challenge

Jump Straight In

Quickstart throws random spots at you across all game types and formations. There's no filtering — you get a new scenario every time, keeping you on your toes.

Quickstart is ideal for building adaptability. Real poker doesn't let you choose your spots — training with random scenarios sharpens your ability to read changing situations and make sound decisions under pressure.

2. Targeted Training

Filter and Focus

Targeted Training lets you narrow down exactly what you want to practise. Apply filters across multiple dimensions to build focused training sessions around your weakest areas.

  1. 1
    Game Type

Filter by MTT, Cash, Spins, or Heads-Up.

  2. 2
    Actions

Choose specific preflop action sequences — single-raised pots, 3-bet pots, and more.

  3. 3
    Stack Size

Filter by effective stack depth to practise spots at specific stack-to-pot ratios.

  4. 4
    Hero Position

Toggle between OOP (out of position), IP (in position), or Any to control which side of the table you're practising from.

If you know you have leaks in certain spots — say, defending the BB in 3-bet pots or playing the CO in MTTs — Targeted Training is the most effective way to isolate and improve those areas.

3. All Spots

Full Control

Browse every available spot and choose exactly what you want to train. Select the precise game type, stack size, and formation (e.g., BB vs BTN, CO vs HJ) to load a specific scenario.

Once you've selected a spot, you can further narrow your training by choosing a specific board texture:

Suit

Rainbow, Two Tone, or Monotone

Paired

Unpaired, Paired, or Trips

Board Composition

High card, Medium card, Low card combinations — plus whether a straight is possible and what the high card on the flop is.

All Spots gives you surgical precision over your study sessions. If you want to master a specific matchup on a specific board type — say, BTN vs BB on monotone flops in 40bb MTTs — this is where you go.
Chapter 07

Training History & Performance

Track how you're doing over time — see your accuracy, EV capture, and session-by-session progress.

What's Tracked

Overall Win Rate

Your accuracy across all training sessions — how often you pick the GTO-optimal action.

EV Analysis

How much expected value you're capturing vs. leaving on the table with each decision.

Session Summaries

Each training session is logged as a card showing your results, making it easy to spot trends.

  3. 3
    Filter by Format

Use the tabs at the top to filter by game format and look for trends — are you improving in certain spot types?

Track your progress regularly. Consistent improvement in specific spot types means your study sessions are paying off.
