BvB 3-Bet Pots on 9-5-3: The 80% / 25% / Check Split

Most players default to a single c-bet sizing in 3-bet pots. The solver doesn't. After SB checks (which it does 98.3% of the time on this texture — treat it as always), BB as the 3-bettor splits flop strategy three ways: bet 80% pot 33.2%, bet 25% pot 25.4%, check 41.4%. The big sizing isn't a polarized "value or bluff" — it's an equity-denial bet for vulnerable overpairs. TT bets 80% nearly 99% of the time. Why? SB has six over-cards live; the small sizing leaves too much equity on the table.

Check-Raising with Middling Hands

Modern solvers check-raise flops with surprisingly weak hands — middle pair, backdoor draws, offsuit gutshots. The reason is not the flop. It is that these combos give you a deep, credible bluff range on turns and rivers. If your check-raise range is only nutted hands, you are folding too much when villain barrels.

The solver mix: bet 80% pot 50%, bet 25% pot 14%, check back 36%. The big bet is the modal play — it captures fold equity from SB's many weak unpaired hands and builds the pot for the times you do improve. Checking back is fine; the small sizing is the worst of the three.

ICM at the final table is a different game than chip EV. Risk premium tightens defense ranges hard — and short-stack reshove decisions at 12–15bb are the spots that decide your tournament. Below is the BB defense range at 15bb facing a button min-raise near a money bubble (9-handed, ICM near-bubble solve): 52.7% fold, 26.3% call, 21% raise/jam — versus only 24% fold in chip-EV. Premium pairs and AK move to a small 3-bet sizing; mid pairs flat instead of jam to preserve stack; wheel suited Ax flips the other way and jams pure for fold equity.
